Convention is the perfect opportunity to get most of the CEUs required for the year. CEU credits are given for our Opening and General Sessions on the first 2 days and on the 3rd day we have several CEUs going on with multiple topics to choose from.

Dementia Overview & Practical Suggestions for Caregiving
Mary Ann Drummond, RN, DCP, CADDCT, and CEO of Angel Tree Consulting, has a passion for presenting innovative and successful strategies in both caregiver and provider settings to assist individuals with dementia “live their best” each day. With over thirty years of nursing experience and sixteen years as a VP in the assisted living industry developing programs for dementia care, she credits much of her expert knowledge to the greatest teachers of all, those who live daily with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Author of “Meet Me Where I Am – An Alzheimer’s Care Guide” and “I Choose to Remember – Reminiscing Therapy Aide”, Ms. Drummond enjoys working with organizations across the country to increase successful outcomes in dementia care.
Dementia and the Law: What You Need to Know
Amelia Crotwell, Certified as an Elder Law Attorney (CELA), As founder and owner of Elder Law of East Tennessee, Attorney Amelia Crotwell devotes her expertise to helping elders, persons with disabilities, and their families plan for their legal, financial, and health care needs. Her legal practice areas include elder law, estate planning, wills and trusts, special needs trusts, Medicaid and Veterans Benefits planning, conservatorship and probate, Social Security Disability, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) planning. While she has handled many different types of legal cases since earning her law degree in 1997, she describes working with elders and their families as “by far the most rewarding area of law practice I have ever experienced, both personally and professionally.”
Objective: The purpose of Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc.’s Caregiver Training series is to educate professional and family caregivers on Alzheimer’s disease and give useful information concerning dementia care. After completing the training, the participant should have:
- A better understanding of the disease, its process and available treatments.
- Practical tips for caring for the individual with dementia.
- Legal issues as they relate to caring for someone with dementia.
Cost: The full-day training will include all handouts as well as lunch. Conference fees are $25 for family care partners and $45 for professional care partners. Professional fee includesCEUs which are pending for administratorsof residential homes for the aged as well as assisted living facility administrators and nurses.
On site respite will be provided, at no cost, day of event. You must call to register so we can provide adequate coverage.

Meet Me Where I Am: Managing Symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Other Age-Related Dementia
With 30+ years as a registered nurse, the last 13 of which as an executive in the assisted living industry, Mary Ann Drummond’s work focus was with elders who have Alzheimer’s and other age-related dementia. Learning from the greatest teachers of all, those who suffer daily with Alzheimer’s disease, Drummond gained a passion for educating others in ways to successfully meet the needs of the Alzheimer’s patient. She is a highly sought-after speaker and published author who sensitively and compassionately helps audiences and readers better understand Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias, sharing insight into how to best care for a loved one struggling with the diseases.
Attendees at the May ACAP-Hickory will learn:
- Typical behaviors of Alzheimer’s and other age-related dementia
- Strategies to care for a loved one with dementia and techniques for managing difficult symptoms
- Safe and positive methods for improving the quality of life of a loved one with dementia
